Policy and Advocacy
Policy Philosophy
Children's HealthWatch takes a holistic view of health - there are many factors that affect how well a child grows and develops. Each child grows up in the context of his/her family and, therefore, we feel it is important to monitor a wide range of policies that are the underpinnings of a family's ability to provide for survival needs: income, housing, energy, nutrition, health care & child care.
Though we constantly monitor all of the programs and issues addressed in our interview, each year we choose a sub-group of these issues to become our primary focus for the year. In every case, we strive for an overall understanding of the topic, its influence on food insecurity and young children's health and development, and, in turn, its relation to current policy debates, in order to fulfill our goal of informing evidence-based policy.
