Alan Meyers is a Co-Principal Investigator for Children’s HealthWatch Boston site.  His research interests include iron deficiency, chronic undernutrition, and overweight and obesity among disadvantaged children. He has a special interest in the nutritional problems of low-income children, and has served as a staff physician with clinical programs in failure-to-thrive, pediatric AIDS, and overweight management (Nutrition and Fitness for Life).

Prior to joining Children's HealthWatch, Dr. Meyers served as a pediatric consultant to the Tufts "Shape Up Somerville" program; co-chair of the Task Force on Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Oveerweight Prevention and Control Initiative; and co-chair of the Clinical Management Task Force of the Boston Public Schools' STEPS program.  He is currently pediatric consultant to Boston's citywide Head Start Health Services Advisory Committee; and is co-chair of the Massachusetts Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Obesity.  He has been a staff pediatrician in primary care at Boston City Hospital/Boston Medical Center since 1986.

Dr. Meyers received his AB in Biology from Brown University and his MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.  He completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in Ambulatory Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital.  He received his MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health.
